As an artist, I strive to capture the fleeting moments in life that often go unnoticed, to share my appreciation for nature and the world around us. Throughout most of my work, I have gravitated toward landscape photography, though I have recently experimented with various media, including charcoal drawings, alternative photography techniques, and floral designs. I believe anything that the earth creates is a work of art in and of itself, so my intention is to capture the authenticity of life and create something new to share with the world in hopes of making others happy and celebrating those special moments.
In my most recent project for my senior thesis, I sought to further explore the alternative process of cyanotype printing. I decided to produce a series of appreciation cards for each one of my family members, representing them through photographs and the flower I believe best symbolizes them and our relationship. My process began by composing the cover of each card within Photoshop and inverting the photograph into a negative, allowing the positive to be captured on the cyanotype material after exposure to light. After designing and handwriting their cards, I decided to display this series within a dinner table setup to further convey the feeling of gathering with loved ones, offering a moment for the audience to pause and reflect. My intention behind this project was to offer a moment of peace and a reminder to the audience to slow down and reflect on moments in life that have helped shape who we are today, and remember to be grateful for everything this life has to offer.
